Description

Hill Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse, with early 19th-century replacement windows. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and brick end stacks. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan, with the main north-south section facing east and a rear east-west wing. Originally, parts of the design incorporated Gothic detailing. The farmhouse is three storeys high with a plain parapet. It has three bays defined by giant pilaster strips, the outer ones extending above the parapets. The windows are 16-pane glazing bar sashes with sill bands, and include a canted bay window to the ground floor on the left with a hipped roof. A central 6-panelled door is set within a pointed surround, above which is a pointed overlight. A single-storey, two-bay extension dates from the mid to late 19th century, while a single-storey, single-bay extension is probably from the early 19th century. A small, 18th-century ogee-headed window is visible in the gable of the right-hand side.
