Description
Rose Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on the south side of High Street in Rochester, with later additions and alterations. The structure is timber framed with brick infill, set on a painted stone plinth. Parts of the building have been rebuilt in brick, painted to resemble timber framing. It has a clay tile roof and a central brick stack. Originally a two-bay lobby entry plan cottage with a staircase positioned on the opposite side of the stack, it now includes 20th-century additions to the rear. Originally one storey and attic, it is now two storeys high, with two 20th-century casement windows. The facade features decorative painted panels on the upper level, presenting a three-panel design from cill to wall plate, along with a central boarded door. The west gable end also has painted panels and a painted king post roof truss. Inside, the cottage contains exposed chamfered ceiling beams and an inglenook fireplace.
