Description

East Lodge is a small country house dating to the 1820s, with minor later additions. Constructed of ashlar blocks of Hopton stone, it features a hipped slate roof hidden behind a blocking course, along with corniced ashlar ridge stacks. The facade is arranged as a two-storey, two-bay-one-bay-two-bay composition. It has glazing bar sashes with low-relief Beaux-Arts style pediments. A deep plinth, a string at first floor level, and a cyma recta moulding below the blocking course are also present; the outer pairs of windows are set in slight breaks, inset from the angles. A flat-roofed Tuscan porch supported by paired columns and featuring a frieze sits centrally, with steps leading to part-glazed double doors with an overlight. A single-storey bay with a tripartite sash window extends from the right side of the building. Inside, the entrance hall runs through to an archway leading to a stair hall, which contains a marble staircase and cast iron balusters. The principal rooms are adorned with Tuscan Purbeck marble fireplaces.
