Description

HORNINGLOW STREET SK 2523 SW (North Side)

GV II

Shop and office with accommodation above. Probably C16 or possibly medieval, remodelled in c18, and extended in C19. Timber- frame, exposed at rear, faced in painted brick at front. Plain tile roof with gabled ends. Brick stacks at gable ends.

Original rectangular plan front range has first floor doorway at centre of rear wall. Later wing at rear of left end forms overall L-shaped plan.

2 and 3 storeys. 3 window south front. 2 storeys on left with large 16-pane sash on first floor with rusticated flat arch. On right 2 2-light casements on first floor, and on second floor 3- light casement to left and 6-pane sash to right; all with glazing bars. On ground floor small C20 shop front on left and 2 C20 doors on right with flanking C20 windows. At rear large framing exposed on left with tension brace and first floor doorway with cambered head; later brick wing to right.
