Description
Nos. 52 and 54 on High Street is a shop and restaurant with a dwelling above. The core of the building likely dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber-framed structure that is pebble-dashed, topped with a slated roof and has rear chimneys made of gault brick. The building stands two storeys high and has four windows. The first storey has 19th-century small-pane sash windows, while the shop and restaurant display late 20th-century shop windows. A notable feature is the early 19th-century entrance door, which is probably located in a cross-passage position. This door is panelled with six sunk and beaded panels, has panelled reveals, and is flanked by reeded wooden pilasters. Above the door is a semi-circular fanlight with converging curved bars and a broad fluted border. To the right, the shop has a rear wing that reveals some exposed framing from the 16th or early 17th century.
