Description

This is a house dating from the mid to late 16th century, built in two stages. It is two storeys high, with a timber-framed and plastered exterior. The roof is covered in plain tiles and features a 19th-century chimney made of gault brick. The windows are mostly 19th-century sash and casement windows with small panes of glass. A 20th-century panelled entrance door is fitted, incorporating a moulded pediment and pilasters. The house was likely constructed as a 16th-century extension to the earlier parlour cell of numbers 52 and 54 High Street. The rear wing displays good tension-braced close-studding on its south side. The older section features a jetty projecting from the south wall, supported by a moulded bressumer. The roof has a wind-braced clasped-purlin construction.
