Description
The Triumphal Arch, gates, and flanking railings at Quixhill are an early 19th-century structure built from ashlar stone in a simple neo-classical style. The central rounded archway features a raised keystone and is supported by Tuscan pilasters. It is flanked by two lower flat-headed arches on Tuscan columns, with all three arches topped by a full entablature. The main arch has wrought iron gates, and the flanking railings are also made of wrought iron, adorned with fleur-de-lys crested standards. Each side of the railings extends approximately 20 yards, connecting the triumphal arch to lodges located to the north and south. This arch was formerly one of the entrances to Alton Towers.
