Description

Wellcroft Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of coursed, squared, and dressed large stone blocks, with a clay tile roof featuring coped verges. Integral ashlar end stacks and a brick ridge stack are present. Originally, the farmhouse had a 2-room plan with a lobby entry on the north side and a south door opposite the staircase, which extended up the west side of the stack. It was later extended to the east to include a dairy. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays of roof. A vertical joint indicates the division between the original house on the right and the dairy on the left. Iron casement windows are found on the ground floor to the right and centre, and on the first floor to the right. A door is located to the right of the centre. Inside, the central room has exposed chamfered ceiling beams and a corbelled fireplace with a moulded mantelpiece used as a cornice.
