Description

Nos 292-303 Shobnall Road is a row of twelve model workers' cottages built around 1875. They are constructed from red brick with blue brick dressings and feature a Welsh slate roof. The front facade consists of 24 large-paned sash windows arranged in six pairs, each pair flanked by a single window. All windows have cambered heads and stone sills, with blue brick bands at the cill level and at the height of the window heads. The fenestration on this front is largely unchanged, with only one 20th-century replacement. The low-pitched roof has brick dentilled eaves cornice, end stacks, and five pairs of ridge stacks, most of which still have their original chimney pots.

Access to the cottages is from the rear, with doors located in the side of a projecting range for each pair. This elevation has undergone significant alterations. These cottages were built by Messrs Mann, Crossman & Paulin, who were the proprietors of what is now Marston's Brewery.
