Description
The fountain and ornamental pool, dating from around 1900, are located approximately 30 meters south of The Lawns in Tatenhill. Made of stone, the pool is surrounded by a roll-moulded kerb and has a square shape with apsidal ends on each side. At its center, there is a fountain featuring putti in a broad bowl, which is supported by a seated rodent on a rusticated 'island'. This feature is part of the formal landscape designed for the Edward VII wing, likely created to honor the King. It is situated within the extensive man-made grounds of The Lawns, an Edwardian mansion built for the Bass family, who were brewers in Burton-on-Trent.
