Description
This is a 17th century timber-framed house in Hayfield, faced in red brick from the 18th or 19th century. It has a tiled roof with gabled ends and is U-shaped in plan, consisting of one storey and an attic. The central range features a central brick stack, while the south-east range has a large external sandstone stack on the gable end, marked with the initials 'RS' and the date '1660'. The house includes gabled dormers and mainly 19th century casement windows. Inside, the central range has a ceiling beam with a stepped chamfer and an 18th century dog-leg staircase with a moulded string, balusters, and square newels. The south-west wing contains a large exposed ceiling beam of square section and a brick segmental vaulted cellar.
