Description

This is an 1858 Wesleyan Infant School, situated on Wesley Road in Ironbridge. The building is constructed of buff brick with decorative bands of polychrome brick. It features 3-light mullioned windows with pointed arches and geometrically patterned glazing bars. The west side of the building, facing the road, has a gabled bay to the left with an overhanging verge above a raking corbel table. To the right of this bay is a projecting tower with pointed-arched openings, a pyramidal tile roof, and a memorial stone tablet dedicated to John Fletcher, the evangelist vicar of Madeley. The building has moulded brick stacks and a patterned tile roof incorporating bands of fishscaling. A schoolmaster’s house is incorporated into the east end of the building.
