Description
The Chapel on the Rock, at Nos 52 and 53 Ironbridge New Bridge Road, is believed to have been built as a chapel around the mid-18th century, although it contains ceiling beams dating from approximately the 17th century, characterized by stopped chamfered spines with run-out stops. John Fletcher, the Methodist Minister at Madeley from 1760 to 1785, is associated with the site through accounts of him preaching there. The building was later converted into a pair of brick cottages, retaining minimal original chapel features. The only remaining element of the original structure may be a gabled stone porch-like projection at the rear of No 52. The windows are wooden casements. The building is listed primarily for its historical associations.
