Description
No. 40 is a Tudor style cottage dated 1841, constructed from yellow brick. It features a tiled roof with gabled ends and wide eaves, and stands two storeys tall. The front has two projecting gabled bays with set-offs, adorned with ornate openwork bargeboards. The windows are two-light casements with small panes set in chamfered openings, topped with stone lintels. A large central brick chimney stack has a group of four octagonal shafts. At the rear, there is a wing with a pair of octagonal chimneys and a gabled porch, which also has openwork bargeboards. The porch displays a stone shield tablet inscribed with the date '1841' and the initials 'C.H.C'.
