Description

The Market Buildings, located on Ironbridge Market Square, date from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with a hipped slate roof and features four gabled dormers and brick chimney stacks. It is three storeys high, with a five-window arrangement to the first and second floors. The end and central bays project slightly, and the central bay is topped with a pediment containing an oval window. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, with triple-light windows in moulded wooden frames on the first floor, set within arched recesses with impost bands. A moulded string runs across the building at the first floor level. The ground floor originally comprised five segmental arcaded arches, which were open but are now filled in with later shopfronts, including a Post Office. Each arch is topped with an oval window.
