Description
The Tontine Hotel is a red brick building dating from around 1800, featuring a hipped plain tile roof and an eaves band. It stands three storeys tall with five bays on the south elevation, which includes flat-headed sash windows with glazing bars. The central entrance consists of panelled double doors beneath an arched fanlight, framed by a wooden doorcase that has sidelights and an open pediment supported by pilasters. The east elevation has three bays, with the centre section projecting forward and topped by a pediment that contains a large circular window in the tympanum. The second floor has flat-headed sashes, while the first floor features round-headed windows, including an attractive Venetian window set in a shallow arched recess at the centre. The ground floor has a flat-headed triple-light window in the centre, with shallow semi-circular headed recesses on each side.
