Description
The Church of St Mark is a church located in Stoke on Trent, built between 1831 and 1834 by John Oates of Halifax as a Commissioners Church, with later additions. The church features a west tower, a nave with two aisles, and a chancel that was added in 1866 by R. Scrivener. It is faced with ashlar stone.
The three-stage tower has a western doorway with a chamfered arch, hood moulds, and decorative foliate crocketing. Above the doorway, there is a simple lancet window with shafted responds. The second stage of the tower includes triple lancets, blind arcading, and a clock, while the bell chamber has paired lights with a central pilaster above. The angle buttresses are topped with crocketed pinnacles, and the tower features an embattled parapet.
The aisles have lancet windows with shafted responds and are divided into seven bays by buttresses, with polygonal turrets and pinnacles at the angles. There is a north doorway in a porch to the west of the aisle. The chancel is adorned with foiled lancets and two-light Decorated windows, topped with a fretted parapet.
