Description
The former Cliff Vale Pottery and Calcining Kilns, now known as Caradon Twyfords Ltd, is a pottery works and bottle ovens built in 1887, with later modifications. The structure is made of brick with stone dressings and features plain-tiled roofs. The main frontage consists of three storeys and 22 bays arranged in a pattern of 2-2-4-1-4-9. The entrance bay is highlighted by stone pilasters and an entrance with a cast-iron lintel above, along with three stilted arched windows above it. An ornamented segmental pediment bears the date of construction. On either side of the entrance bay are two towers featuring paired windows with stone aprons on the upper floors and stone quoins. The outer range to the right showcases a giant arched colonnade with windows that have cambered brick heads, along with a moulded brick eaves cornice. To the left, there are two bays designed in a similar style, followed by a gabled range with giant brick arches. Additionally, there are two calcining kilns of circular section that are joined together at the base but have free-standing caps.
