Description
Pollett's Bridge is a canal roving bridge built around 1801, with some minor later alterations. It is part of the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, originally constructed under the direction of William Jessop and Thomas Telford for the Ellesmere Canal. The bridge is made of painted brick and features ceramic and brick coping that ramps down to the towpath on the east side, finishing with corner piers on the west side. It has an elliptical arch with a string course and a round-headed recess on the west side. This section of the canal was completed around 1801, and the Ellesmere Canal Company merged with the Chester Canal Company in 1813, eventually becoming part of the Shropshire Union in 1846.
