Description
The Hamar Memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 13 metres north of the north aisle of the Church of St George, dating from around 1830 to 1835. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a moulded plinth, sunken panels, a moulded cornice, and a concave capping topped with a swagged urn-finial. The memorial commemorates Moses Hamar, who died in 1835, Edith Hamar, who died in 1838, and their seven children, who all died in 1811. The inscription reads: "The above children of Moses and Edith Hamar/of Colestay in this Parish were all/carried off by a Putrid Fever with/ awful rapidity in the short space of/Three Weeks - a sad instance of the/ uncertainty of human life."
