Description
The Dutch Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the mid to late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. The rear is constructed with a roughcast timber frame, while the front features painted brick. The right gable end is made of rubblestone, and the left is rendered. The roof is covered with asbestos sheets. The cottage has one storey and an attic, and it appears to consist of two or three framed bays.
There are early 20th-century canted bay windows on both the left and right sides of a segmental-headed four-panel door located to the left of center. To the far right, there is a 19th-century segmental-headed fixed-light window. The roof slope has three mid-20th-century flat-roofed dormers. A prominent rendered external end stack is located to the left, while an integral end stack with a 19th-century red brick shaft is on the right.
Although a full inspection of the interior was not possible during the resurvey in August 1986, the left ground-floor room was noted to have a chamfered spine beam and heavy joists. The cottage is included for its group value.
