Description

This is a house, now divided into two separate dwellings, dating to the mid-17th century with subsequent additions and alterations. The house is timber-framed with rendered infill panels set on a rendered rubblestone plinth, and has a slate roof with decorative cresting, carved bargeboards, and shaped finials. The original layout likely comprised three framed bays, with a smaller end bay added in the late 17th century.

The house is one storey and has an attic. The timber framing is visible as square panels, extending from the cill to the wall plate, with a straight tension brace to the front left corner. Windows are primarily 19th-century casements, including canted bays to the far left and immediately to the right of the central four-panel door (the top panels of which are now glazed). The gable to the left of the centre has a three-light casement window on each floor, and another three-light casement is located on the far right. There are three late 19th-century gabled dormers in the lower part of the roof slope, one to the left and two to the right of the gable, the furthest to the right featuring a leaded casement window. An internal red brick end stack is present on the left, with a toothed capping. Painted rubblestone cladding covers the right gable end, exposing the original roof rafters.

The interior of the right-hand cottage (Holland Cottage) was inspected, revealing an original end wall with square panels and a collar and tie-beam truss, showing that the end bay is an addition.
