Description

Clunbury Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 18th century and the late 20th century. The original core of the house appears to have been a three-bay timber-framed structure, with the eaves raised in the late 18th century. A late 20th-century addition, matching the style of the original building, was added to the right. The house is timber-framed with rendered infill on a rubblestone plinth, which extends up to the left gable end. Limestone rubble is also visible at the rear, and the roof is slate covered. The timber framing consists of square panels, three from sill to original wall-plate, with a rectangular panel above the eaves raising. A long, straight tension brace is present. The windows are largely modern casements; two are directly below the eaves, one to the left, and four to the right of a late 20th-century porch with a boarded door. A segment-headed archway with a wooden lintel, which originally contained a doorway, is now infilled with later framing and is situated to the right of the casement. A red brick ridge stack in two sections and an integral end stack with a late 19th-century brown brick shaft are visible on the facade. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to contain features of interest.
