Description

Orchard House, formerly known as Church View, is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill panels, along with a brick extension. The roofs are covered with cedar shingles, replacing the original thatch. The house has a large lateral brick ridge stack with two 20th-century restored diagonal shafts, and a later projecting brick eaves stack at the cross wing. The layout is H-shaped, comprising the main range and a two-bay cross wing, along with the 20th-century cross wing extension.

The exterior is two stories with an attic. The left gable front has square framing four panels high, jettied at the first and second floors, supported by a pair of straight braces on each floor. The gable-end truss features a straight tie beam with a plain chamfered soffit, vertical struts, and upper and lower collars. The left return side has two bays of square framing, each with a pair of straight braces. There is a later projecting brick stack to the left and a later doorway in the left bay. The house has two gabled dormers, and the rear gable of the cross wing mirrors the front gable. Each bay on both floors of the framed bays contains 20th-century varnished softwood casements. The interior has not been inspected.
