Description
This is a group of 10 chest tombs located approximately 3.5 to 10 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael. They date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and are made of limestone, with some retaining traces of paint. The tombs are rectangular in shape and feature moulded plinths and capping, with most having chamfered top ledgers. Some of the tombs include fluted, enriched, or columnar corner pilasters, while others are mainly plain. Notable monuments include those for Frances Williams, who died in 1838, and Elizabeth Hughes, who died in 1817; these have inward-tapering sides, with the former featuring fluted corner spandrels. The remaining tombs have moulded inscription panels that commemorate various members of other local families.
