Description
The Broseley War Memorial is made of Cornish granite and features a Latin cross on top of a hexagonal cornice with a carved floral motif. This is set upon a tapering octagonal shaft, which stands on a square plinth that has a decorative top and a splayed base. The front of the plinth has an inscription that reads: "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN/ THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN/ HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS./ TO THE GLORY OF GOD,/ AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF/ THE 52 MEN OF THIS PARISH,/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR KING AND/ COUNTRY, IN THE GREAT WAR./ 1914-1919." The names of the fallen are listed on the other three sides of the plinth.
The plinth is set on a three-stepped octagonal base, with the top step displaying three inclined plaques that commemorate those who fell in the Second World War, reading: "THE FALLEN 1939 – 1945." Additional plaques on this step list the names of the fallen. An inclined plaque on the second octagonal step is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Korean War and the Falklands War.
