Description

The gazebo located approximately 65 metres east of Harnage Grange is a Grade II* listed structure dating from the late 16th century. It is built of red brick in English bond with rendered brick window dressings and features a pyramidal stone slate roof topped with a finial. The gazebo has a polygonal plan with a wing extending to the south.

This two-storey building has a chamfered plinth and a chamfered crow-stepped gable end on the south side. An external brick stack rises from the first floor on the northwest side, featuring an octagonal brick shaft with a moulded base and capital.

On the west front, there is a three-light double chamfered mullioned window with leaded casements on the first floor, while the ground floor has a chamfered round arched entrance with a straight returned brick hoodmould above. To the right on the first floor, there is a two-light double chamfered mullioned window with a returned brick hoodmould, and on the rear, there are two additional two-light double chamfered mullioned windows on the first floor, along with a segmental-headed blocked doorway at the southeast corner. The windows throughout the building feature leaded casements.

Inside, the ground floor room likely contains reset 17th-century panelling, while the first floor room, which was not inspected, is reported to have a stone fireplace. The gazebo is situated within the grounds of Harnage Grange and is noted as a particularly fine and notably unaltered example, likely constructed during the time of the Fowler family's additions to Harnage Grange after 1569.
