Description
Greengates is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar quoins, and features a timber-framed rear wing with rendered panels. It has plain-tile roofs with gabled ends and a brick dentil course at the eaves. A partly projecting brick chimney is located on the left gable end. The rectangular plan of the house runs parallel to the road, with the timber-framed rear wing positioned at an angle.
The street-facing side is a two-storey structure with a two-window range, featuring three-light multi-pane casements set in brick segmental-arched openings on the ground floor. The central entrance consists of a four-panelled door with a top light, sheltered by a projecting flat-roofed porch supported by two plain columns. The first floor includes a central rendered panel. The rear wing displays exposed timber-framing, with a fleur-de-lys cast motif on the north wall, and has a high coursed rubble plinth. The rear gable features a 20th-century casement window and a two-light attic casement. There is also a 20th-century garage attached to the north side and a 20th-century conservatory at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
