Description

Thonglands is a 17th-century farmhouse that features the remains of an old moat. It has a painted timber frame with infill panels, while the rear is unpainted, and it includes stone rubble and red brick. The roofs are covered with plain tiles. At the rear, there is a projecting stepped stone eaves stack with a 20th-century brick upper shaft. The cross wing has a projecting brick stack with three brick spurred shafts and a connecting oversailing cap. The building is T-shaped, consisting of a main stone range and a framed cross wing.

The exterior is two storeys with an attic. The front has a close-studded framed gable on the right, featuring a tension brace at the ground storey and a left gable return wall. The first and attic floors are jettied, supported by moulded bressumers. The tie beam has square panels with inset diagonal braces that create a herringbone pattern on the first floor and a star pattern at the gable. Both the ground and first floors have one tripartite sash window each, measuring 2/2:6/6:2/2, and there is a blocked casement in the gable. To the left, the main two-window stone-walled range has 2-light casements with top lights at the first floor, a 3-light casement with a top light, and a 6/6 sash at ground level. There is also a later two-storey single-window brick extension on the left side.

The rear features a later stone rubble lean-to extension on the right with an entrance door. To the left, there is a restored framed gable with close-studded ground floor, square-framed first floor, and gable, showcasing inset diagonal bracing that forms a herringbone pattern, along with scattered 2-light casements. The side wall of the cross wing is covered by a lean-to extension that encapsulates a large brick stack. The interior has not been inspected.
