Description
Broadstone Chapel is a church that was formerly a chapel to Munslow and was originally a 17th-century agricultural building. It held bi-annual church services until its restoration in 1843. The structure is built from stone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings to the openings, all dating from around 1843. The roof is covered with plain tiles and features a bellcote gable at the west end.
The chapel has a rectangular plan that includes an integral nave and chancel. The east gable has a single lancet window, while the north wall features three round-headed lancets. The south wall has two lancets and a pointed arched doorway to the left, which has a boarded door. The west gable includes a shallow stepped buttress that incorporates a single lancet and terminates with an ashlar-coped bellcote.
Inside, the chapel has a three-bay roof, with two bays featuring a single trenched-purlin type and the west bay having a double-trenched purlin. There are three internal trusses with twin vertical struts and collars; the western truss has raking struts, and the tie beams are chamfered with simple stop chamfers. A small pulpit features 17th-century carved panelling, and there is a plain chalice font from 1843.
