Description
69A and 70 Wyle Cop is a pair of shops that were originally a dwelling, dating from the late 16th century. The building is timber-framed, with some parts plastered and painted to imitate timbering, and it has a plain tiled roof. It stands two storeys high and features a main range and a cross wing plan, with a through passage at the angle.
An early 20th-century shop front has been added to the lower storey of the gabled wing on the left, which is painted with quatrefoil and trefoil panels to mimic decorative framing. Above this, there is a 3-light mullioned and transomed window with ornate leaded glazing. The building also has decorated barge-boards with a finial.
In the main range beyond the passage entry, there is another 20th-century shop front and a 3-light mullioned window above. This section retains exposed original timbering, with close studding and a partial mid rail. A small gabled dormer is present in the roof, and there is a side wall stack against the cross wing.
