Description
The Former Bowdler's School, now used as offices, dates back to 1724. It is constructed of brick with painted stone dressings and features a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and a hipped roof with gabled dormers. It is arranged in three bays, with the outer bays slightly advanced. The central doorway is framed by a shouldered architrave and topped with a heavy segmental pediment that has an inscribed stone noting "Founded by Thomas Bowdler 1724." This doorway is linked to a window above it, which is adorned with elaborate consoles over the sill. All windows are casements with transoms, featuring moulded sills and segmentally-arched heads with keystones. There is a continuous string course above the ground floor and a projecting modillion eaves band. The building's design is emphasized by angle quoins at the outer bays, and it has a coped gable at the rear along with a side wall stack.
