Description
The stables to the north of Wilderhope Manor, now functioning as a field studies centre, date back to the 17th century. They are constructed of brick and feature a storey band, with plain-tile roofs and brick parapet gables. The building has a U-shaped plan, consisting of a main range with two projecting wings, and the main length is three bays.
The exterior is single storey with lofts. Each front gable of the projecting wings has one ground-floor three-light 20th-century casement window. The central linking range includes a boarded door flanked by two 20th-century three-light casements, all of which are set under brick segmental arches. There is a blocked opening above the central door. The main gable ends have loft openings in the upper storeys, with a 20th-century boarded door located on the right-hand gable. The rear features three brick-blocked openings above 20th-century three-light multi-pane casements.
Inside, the building has a three-bay trenched purlin roof with a ridge. The right-hand (north) truss includes a tie beam, vertical struts, a collar, and twin raking struts, while the left-hand (south) truss consists of a tie beam and raking struts.
