Barn Approximately 40 Metres North Of Plas Wigginton

This barn, located approximately 40 meters north of Plas Wigginton, dates back to the mid-17th century and has undergone later alterations. It features a timber frame with red brick infill and rebuilding on an uncoursed sandstone rubble plinth, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The structure has two levels and includes a mix of rectangular and square panels, large square panels, and vertical posts, with later thin horizontal members and long straight tension braces.

The south side has been largely rebuilt in 19th-century red brick and showcases a variety of air vents, including cross-shaped, Lorraine cross, lozenge, and X-shaped designs. There are full-height double doors at the center, with slightly lower inserted entrances to the right, and doorways on the left and right, the latter of which are former segmental headed. Eaves hatches are present, with one to the left of center and three to the right.

Inside, the barn has timber-framed partitions with long straight tension braces and an inserted loft in the two right bays. The roof is a single-purlin design in seven unequal bays, featuring a variety of queen-strut trusses and raking struts from tie beams to principal rafters, along with straight windbraces. Notably, there is one jowled wall post that is likely reused.
