Description
The bridge, located 50 metres east of Moreton Mill, is a road bridge and sluices that span the River Roden. It was constructed between 1759 and 1761, with mid-19th century alterations and late 20th century additions. The bridge is made of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a triple-arched design, comprising a smaller central round arch flanked by larger segmental arches, all with keystones on the downstream side. The downstream parapet wall has chamfered ashlar coping and was repaired in 1999. On the upstream side, there are wooden guides and iron fittings for five sluices. A brick parapet was added on this side in 1999, along with a tubular railing supported by 19th century cast iron bollards. This bridge is an important part of a water-powered ironworking site and serves as a significant ancillary structure.
