Description
The gate and gate piers, located approximately 20 meters to the north-east of The Warren, date from the early to mid-19th century and are made of painted cast iron. They consist of a pair of square-section cast iron gate piers featuring pierced side panels, moulded bases and capitals, and pyramidal caps topped with globe finials. Each pier displays a cast relief of a seated dog at the base and a relief of a stag's head on each face beneath the capital. The gate itself is wrought iron, designed with spear-head railings, a dograil with spear-head dogbars, and lozenge-pattern braces, along with a semi-circular brace above that has lozenge-pattern bracing in between. The stag's head symbolizes the Smythe family, former residents of Acton Burnell Hall, and it is believed that the gate and gate piers have been relocated to their current position from another site.
