Description

This milestone, located approximately 90 metres to the west of Butlane Head, dates from the mid- to late 19th century. It is made of painted cast iron and features a triangular section with sides that curve back to a narrower stem. The top is chamfered, and the edges are beaded. The inscriptions are in serif lettering, with "FORD PARISH" on the top, "POOL/14 MILES" on the left side, and "SALOP/5 MILES" on the right side. The Shrewsbury-Welshpool road was turnpiked in 1758.
