Description

This is a milepost located approximately 35 metres north of Bridge Number 70 on the east side of the Shropshire Union Canal, dating from around 1830. It is made of cast iron and features a short cylindrical shape with a round top. The front has curved rectangular plates, with two plates at the top and one at the bottom. The lettering is in a superscribed serif style, indicating distances: "NANTWICH / 9./ MILES" on the left side, "AUTHERLEY ./ JUNCTION./ 30, MILES" on the right side, and "NORBURY. JUNCTION./ 14½ MILES" at the bottom.
