Description

A pair of houses, dating from the mid-18th century, located on College Hill in Shrewsbury. The buildings were significantly altered in the early 19th century, possibly incorporating the division of a previous single dwelling. They are constructed of painted brick with a Welsh slate roof. Each house has a three-window facade, with a central, paired doorway set beneath a single pediment that was added during the 19th-century alterations. The doorways have six-panelled, part-glazed doors. The ground floor windows have irregular placement, with a single window to the right and two to the left – all are four-pane sashes with flat arches. The upper floors contain three twelve-pane sash windows, with sill bands. A projecting cornice featuring modillions runs along the eaves. Two attic dormers have segmental and triangular pedimented heads. Gable end stacks are present. Subsequent early 19th-century work included adding two staircases, contained within canted bays on the rear elevation.
