Description

The pair of Meire memorials, located approximately one metre east of the south porch of the Church of All Saints, are late 18th century chest tombs made of grey sandstone ashlar. The western memorial features a moulded plinth, side panels with incised borders and flanking fluted pilaster strips, sunken oval end panels with flanking fluted pilaster strips, and a moulded cornice on the flat top. This memorial is dedicated to Mr. Samuel Meire, who died on 6th October 1783 at the age of 60. The eastern memorial has a chamfered plinth, sides with oval panels that have radial corners, tall flanking panels adorned with oval rosettes, and flanking fluted pilaster strips. It also includes recessed end panels with corner decoration and a moulded cornice on the flat top, commemorating Mr. Samuel Meire, who died on 25th January 1797 at the age of 37.
