Description
The gateway to the drive of Acton Scott Hall, located 5 metres east of the churchyard of St Margaret, dates from the 18th century. It features brick construction with ashlar dressings and iron gates. The design includes a pair of gates set between two brick piers that are connected to splayed flank walls. Each gate pier has a brick shaft with ashlar moulded corner dressings, a base, and a cap that features a moulded cornice. The piers are topped with a finial in the shape of a globe set in a chalice, which is decorated with twisted gadroon carving. The iron gates are designed with alternating long and short enriched spear-head standards, a swept top rail and brace, and plain middle and bottom rails.
