Description
Llwyntidmon Hall is a farmhouse, now derelict, dating from the late 16th or early 17th century. It was remodelled in the early to mid-18th century, with 19th-century additions and alterations. The house is constructed of painted red brick on a stepped rubblestone plinth, concealing a timber frame. Painted brick and rubblestone are used for later additions, and the roof is covered in graded slate with crow-step gables to the 18th-century section.
The main 18th-century house is a basic T-plan, with a truncated earlier timber-framed range running parallel to the main range at the rear on the left. The main range was extended to the left in the mid to late 19th century. The two-storey main house has continuous double floor bands stretching across the first floor, and shorter bands to the gables, with the right gable end corbelled. The main range has a C20 top-hung casement window on the ground floor to the left and a segmental-headed C19 casement window directly above it. The gable end has two casement windows on the ground floor and a segmental-headed C19 casement window on the first floor. The short range has a segmental-headed casement window on the right and a segmental-headed, leaded casement window to the gable end on the first floor. The entrance is through a boarded door in the angle with the main range. A prominent red brick ridge stack with two sections and a moulded capping forms a baffle entry above the door. A 19th-century addition has segmental-headed casements on both floors, with a segmental-headed doorway to the right and an integral brick end stack.
The rear of the truncated timber-framed range shows exposed square panels, three from cill to wall-plate, with rendered infill and remains of rubblestone. A catslide outshut abuts it, incorporating one panel of the former continuation of the range to the right. The present gable end of this section is clad in early 20th-century painted brick.
Interior features, noted during a resurvey in November 1986, include chamfered ceiling beams to ground-floor rooms, including twin spine beams and heavy joists to the rear range, which has a large stack with a 19th-century fireplace. A plank and muntin screen is located in the centre of the main range, and a later partition wall runs at right angles, featuring close-set vertical posts. A semi-winder staircase is present. Plank doors are used throughout, several with fleur-de-lys pointed strap hinges. Wide boarded oak floorboards are on the first floor. The roof is a double-purlin structure in two bays with a central collar and tie beam truss to the main range, and a similar roof in one-and-a-half bays to the short range. One bay of single-purlin roof survives to the timber-framed range, with a queen-strut truss to the present gable end. A cast-iron pump is found in the 19th-century addition (former dairy), which has a tile floor and slate shelves, along with a plain spine beam and heavy joists.
