Description
Great Dyffrydd is a farmhouse built in the late 18th century, with later additions and alterations. It features painted brick and a contemporary light timber frame with painted brick infill at the rear, topped with a graded slate roof. The building is L-shaped, with a short range extending to the rear on the right side. It has two storeys and a gable-lit attic, characterized by a stepped eaves cornice. The front has three segmental-headed glazing bar sash windows, with 16 panes on the ground floor, the central window occupying the position of a former doorway. There is an integral end stack on the left and an external end stack on the right, the latter having been rebuilt in red brick in the late 20th century.
At the rear, the framing includes light rectangular panels that extend up to the eaves, incorporating several reused timbers. The entrance is located through a wide gabled rear range at the angle with the main range, featuring a six-panel door with a rectangular barred overlight, set in a plain pilastered doorcase beneath a flat-roofed stone porch. The service range to the left of the main range has a dentilled eaves cornice and an integral end stack. There is also a two-storey lean-to situated in the angle between the main and rear ranges.
Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered and plain ceiling beams and joists in the ground and first-floor rooms, along with panelled window shutters at the front. The framing is exposed on the cross walls of the first floor, showcasing vertical posts with light horizontal members that form rectangular panels. A semi-winder staircase connects the ground floor to the first floor, featuring turned newels and stick balusters on an open string, while an oak winder staircase leads from the first floor to the attic. The attic reveals a collar and tie beam roof structured in three bays.
