Description

The Old Brick Guest House is a house that has been converted into a guest house. It dates from the early 18th century, with some remodelling in the early to mid-19th century and an addition from the mid- to late-19th century. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring a coursed limestone rubble plinth and a graded slate roof. It has two storeys and a gabled-lit attic, with deep eaves and integral brick end stacks. The façade consists of three bays, with mid- to late-19th century wooden cross casements that likely reflect the original window arrangement. There are three steps leading up to a central six-panelled door, where the top four panels are raised and fielded, and the bottom two are flush. The doorcase is adorned with panelled pilasters, shaped brackets, and a flat hood. To the left, there is a mid- to late-19th century addition that is set back, constructed of roughcast with a painted stone plinth and a graded slate roof, featuring a semi-integral end stack. This addition has two storeys and a two-window front with late-19th century wooden casements that have thin mullions and transoms. Inside, there is an early 18th century staircase that rises two storeys, featuring a square well, three flights with landings, turned balusters, a closed string, a moulded handrail, and square newel posts.
