Description
Long Mynd House is a house with origins in the 15th century, with additions from the 17th century, and restorations and alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of painted timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill panels, stone rubble, and painted cement rendering. The roof is of plain tiles, with two pitches of old tile banded with new, and a stone ridge stack. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan, comprising a 2-bay former open hall range and a 2-bay cross wing.
The north-east front features the projecting gable of the cross wing, which has extensively renewed close-studding timbering to the gable truss and first storey, with a straight tie beam and a 20th-century casement window. A jettied section extends over a stone ground-storey wall with a 2-light casement window. To the left is the hall range, with square framing extending three panels high, containing 2-light and 3-light casement windows. The left return side has close-studded timbering to the first storey, above a flat projecting canopy, and a 19th-century boarded front door.
The south-east gable end shows a former full cruck truss, now truncated below first-floor level and set on a stone rubble wall. The south-west side has a slightly advanced stone gable to the cross wing with 2-light casement windows at each storey. To the right of this is the hall range, with the left bay having raised eaves of rendered wall and one 2-light casement window at each floor. A projecting tiled gabled porch shelters a door to the left. The north-west side features close-studded timbering above a stone ground storey, featuring a 2-light casement window to the left.
The interior has not been inspected.
