Description

Beech House is a cottage located at the British Waterways Board Canal Maintenance Depot on the southeast side of the Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Branch). It was built around 1806 and is adjacent to the Ellesmere Canal, designed by William Jessop and Thomas Telford. The cottage features painted brick construction and a pyramidal slate roof, with a square plan and a single-storey lean-to on the left side. It has two storeys and a three-window front. The upper and lower left windows are 19th-century segmental-headed casements, while the center and right windows on the first floor are blind square openings. There is a wide 20th-century metal window on the lower right. A central hip-roofed porch leads to a recessed half-glazed door. The cottage has a red brick ridge stack at the center and an integral stack on the back wall, both topped with dentilled capping. Additionally, there are two segmental-headed horizontal sliding sashes on the first floor of the left return. Beech House is included for its group value.
