Description

The Church of St Mary Magdalene, built in 1792, is a Grade II* listed building designed by architect Thomas Telford in the Renaissance style. It features a pedimented portico supported by raised Doric columns, while the internal columns are Ionic. The church has a north tower topped with a cupola. An apse was added by architect Blomfield in 1876. The building is oriented on a north and south axis to enhance the view from East Castle Street. It forms a group with Nos 10 to 16 (consecutive) on East Castle Street.
