Description
Foldgate Farmhouse is a 17th-century house constructed of brick with a plain tile roof. It features a brick composite stack with an ornamental cap at the rear and a brick end stack. The building is two stories high, with an attic and cellar, and has a three-window range. The left side has mullion lights with metal casements and glazing bars, while the right side has mullion and transom lights. There are shouldered drip courses, and a projecting central porch bay that includes a mullion light above a plank door with moulded jambs and a lintel. An attic light is present in the gable. At the rear, the wing has a gable with a mullion and transom window on both the ground and first floors, along with an attic window above and a pentice to the right.
Inside, the farmhouse features ogee stop-chamfered ceiling beams with deep chamfers, three splayed stone fireplaces with oak lintels (two of which have ogee stop chamfers), and four-panel and plank doors. There is an early 19th-century dogleg stick baluster staircase and a studded plank door with cockspur strap hinges in a moulded oak case, located under the two-story porch bay with a moulded oak door frame.
