Description

Case Mill is a house, cottages, and mill that has been converted into flats and offices. It dates from the early to mid 19th century and is built of painted brick with old plain tiles and a brick stack at the rear. The building is three stories high with a cellar and features a two-window range with 2/2 sash windows under cast-iron lintels, and similar sashes above. The eaves are adorned with brick modillions.

The entrance is located to the left and consists of a four-panel door set back in a panelled case, complete with an architrave and a traceried fanlight, all under a rendered semi-circular arch. To the right of the entrance is another 2/2 sash window. The rear elevation showcases a large three-tier bay that serves the basement, ground, and first floors, featuring cast-iron lights in the basement and a four-panel door with a fanlight on the ground floor, along with brick modillion eaves.

To the left is a mid 19th-century range that is two stories tall with an eight-window range, retaining some 19th-century fenestration, including two probable workshop windows and brick modillion eaves. It has a 20th-century entrance under a shallow segmental arch and various 19th and 20th-century windows. The rear of this range includes 20th-century fenestration and brickwork, along with old tiles.

The mill, dating from the mid 19th century, is three stories high with an attic and features a five-window range. It includes four 36-light cast-iron windows with casements, a 6/6 casement, and two leaf hoist doors with glazed, round-headed upper panels, along with six 36-light windows above. There are 20th-century loading bays under a concrete lintel and a small outshut to the right with a cast-iron casement. The fenestration is set under segmental arches and there are twelve oval cast-iron enriched tie-beam plates. The left side of the mill has two 36-light windows on the ground floor (one of which is blocked), and additional windows on the first and second floors, as well as one in the attic. At the rear, there is a weir with a brick-arched race beneath a brick outshut, along with a cast-iron axle and sockets of the wheel.
