Description
Upper Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later additions. It features a combination of timber-frame and brick construction, with stucco and roughcast finishes, and a plain tile roof. A large rubble external stack with a roughcast brick chimney is located at the southeast corner, while a rendered brick stack is found at the north cross-wing. The building is L-shaped in plan and consists of two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a varied arrangement of 18th, 19th, and 20th-century casement windows.
The main range displays diagonally braced panels that jet out over a ground floor made of brick and roughcast, supported by brick piers beneath a chamfered bressumer. The west front includes an overlight with old glass above a blocked opening. The north cross-wing features a 19th-century brick gable, a plank door beneath a simple porch, and additional battened plank doors, along with 19th and 20th-century casements. An outshut from the 17th century, altered in the 19th century, is located to the east.
Inside, the farmhouse retains exposed deep-chamfered spine beams and a dragon beam, along with plank doors. The cellar contains a stone winder stair.
